First book

Bizzie wants to know who gets to choose the first book. I really don't care. I haven't read anything out-of-this-world fantastic in the near past, so I don't have any brilliant ideas. Have any of you read a book that you thought, "Gee, everyone in my family should read this so we can discuss it"? I'm very open to suggestion.
